Preschool Room

The Preschool Room at Little Angels Day Nursery is situated in a separate building to the main setting. There is an entrance to the front and rear of the building, for the children to access the play park and gardens.

We recognise the importance of making learning fun for our pre-schoolers, this keeps them engaged and feeling positive and confident about learning. These methods will enable them to succeed at school and beyond.

Exploring The Preschool Room

Nestled in a small area of trees just to the rear of the room is a woodland area, complete with a wooden hut and bug hotel. This quaint outdoor space gives the children the opportunity to enjoy a natural environment without any conventional toys. They can explore climbing trees, making mud pies and hunting around for seasonal changes and mini beasts.

This area is also a great space for building outdoor dens and telling stories that excite and inspire the children.

Inside the Preschool Room there is a role play area, a dedicated table for drawing and writing, a special area for creation, a scientific investigation area, a computer table and of course a cosy corner with cushions, books, soft toys and drapes.

As well as the variety of activities we offer in the Preschool Room, the children will also help prepare their lunch. This often includes cutting up vegetables, mashing potatoes, making and rolling out pastry for pies and making homemade burgers.

They will then lay up the table with tablecloths and flowers, knives, forks and China plates. The children serve lunch for themselves, promoting independence and increasing their confidence.

Foundations For Learning

The Preschool Room is set out similar to a reception class to help make the children’s transition to school an easier one. They are encouraged to be independent thinkers, influencing their own planning and activities, with the support of the nursery practitioners.

In the Little Angels Preschool Room, the children are introduced to writing, learning to write their own names and sign their various art projects, as well as counting and recognising numbers from 0-20. Our nursery practitioners also encourage their knowledge of shapes and their all-important social skills including making friends, participating in pairs and as a group.

The Preschool has close links with many primary schools in Stroud, Gloucester and Stonehouse to assist the children in making a smooth transition into school life. We have several yearly events to help this school transition, including open and coffee mornings for teachers and other practitioners.

Every child from Little Angels Preschool is provided with a transition record that gives teachers information on each of the areas of development in the EYFS and the ways in which the child likes to learn.

Staying Connected

Every child is assigned a key worker, this person will be your main point of contact for all your child’s needs, including if there are any changes in their routines. Your child’s key worker will also communicate with you via our Connected app, providing twice daily updates with photographs. The app also allows for parents and carers to add comments or interactions of their own that they wish to update us with.

The Connected App gives parents and carers information on child’s mealtimes, skills practiced and any interests from that day.

Preparing For Your Child To Start

We understand it’s a big step to have your child start nursery. At Little Angels we offer everyone 3 free settles in sessions, designed to help your little one familiarises themselves with their new surroundings. However, we recognise that every child is different and will all settle in at different paces, and therefore offer families as many settle in sessions as needed. We will take the time to discuss this with you following your child’s first settle in session.

Our settle in sessions are available to families once all the paperwork is signed and the deposit is paid. We host these sessions once in the morning 9am – 11am and once in the afternoon 2pm – 3pm. We ask parents or carers to stay for the first session and give them the option to stay or pop out for follow up sessions.
